National Day Celebrations 2009

The National Day Celebrations were held on the 7th August 2009 to celebrate our nation’s 44th birthday. (Happy belated birthday, Singapore!)

Students gathered in the morning to listen to the National Day message and sing the national anthem and recite the pledge as one body. Afterwards, students sang a National Day song together to get into the appropriate celebratory mood, and proceeded to create their class mascots based on the theme: “Come Together - Reaching Out. Reaching Up.” This mascot making culminated in a 45 minute mascot parade competition, where classes showcased their class mascots with great pride. This was followed by community singing and a prize presentation with the best class mascots winning prizes.

Overall, it was an enjoyable day for all. Students fed off the high and patriotic atmosphere and we’re glad to say that at the end of the day, we left school loving Singapore just that little bit more (:

Student Council Elections 2009

The annual Student Council Elections has successfully taken place on 24 July, Friday. For the past few weeks, the candidates have been putting in a lot of effort in their election campaigns. On the voting day, students came down to the canteen to cast their votes for their ideal president, vice-president and council candidates of the Student Council 2010. Besides the students, our principal, Ms Yap, as well as teachers and staffs also participated in the voting. In total, more than 60% of the student population has voted. NANYANG STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS 2009

Campaigns by the student candidates have been going on smoothly for these past few days. Hope that all of you have enjoyed the tidbits and small tokens!

Regarding the videos being screened in the canteen during the breaks, we would like to apologise for the unclear videos. We are aware that the candidates could not be heard over the loud noise in the canteen. However, please do try to understand that we had to adapt to the H1N1 situation, thus the use of video speeches instead of the usual LIVE candidates speeches and Q&A sessions in the canteen.

The Voting Day will be held on the Week 4 Friday during the two recesses. Teachers, staff and students are strongly encouraged to come down and vote for your ideal Council President, Vice President as well as the new batch of Councillors for the year 2010. Your votes matter!

We look forward to your active participation on the Voting Day! See you then!

Presenting to you… iCouncil ‘09!

iCouncil is an annual initiative with the intention of helping the student body to get to know the student body better. On the second week of every month, iCouncil ‘09 will be putting up new activities on this page. Do remember to check out this page once a month for updates and try out whatever we have in store! Exciting prizes to be won!

In the month of July here’s what we have lined up:
Activity type: Competition
Up for grabs: Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream vouchers for top 3 winners
Competition period: 10th July-10th August
Who to submit it to: nyicouncil09@gmail.com

Details of competition: iCouncil July brings to you a photography competition based on the theme “Kaleidosc09e”. Why ”Kaleidosc09e”? As all of you know, it was theme of this year’s Nanyang Student Leaders’ Investiture. In addition, when one looks through a kaleidoscope, interesting shapes and colours are seen. Hence, we hope that through this competition you’ll be able to use your creativity to snap a shot that you think best represents  ”Kaleidosc09e” in the context of a colourful and exciting Nanyang life!

We are looking out for snapshots (preferably within the school compound) that can best represent your life in Nanyang. It would be a bonus if your photograph is filled with a variety of shapes and colours too!

We’re sure that many of you out there have a passion and talent for photography, so what are you waiting for? Pick up your cams and start that shutter now!

What to include: Give a name and caption to the attached photograph, and in the email, include your name, class, contact number.
Specifications: Photographs preferably in JPEG format. In the event that the file is unreadable, you would be notified by email.
