Biennial National Weather Studies Project Competition 2009

At the Biennial National Weather Studies Project Competition 2009 organized by Senoko Power, 2 teams from our school won the 1st and 3rd prize of $10,000 and $3,000 respectively. Another team was also accredited with a commendation award.

The winning team’s project investigated the relationship between temperature and working memory. They showed that working memory was best between 25.9 degrees Celsius and 27.3 degrees Celsius.

The 3rd prize winners looked at anthropogenic warming of the sea and its impact on Abalones (Thailand vs Australia).

The group with the commendation award studied the impact of acidity of stagnant water in drains on the reproduction of mosquitoes. They concluded that the Aedes mosquito breeds more in alkaline drains with approximate pH value of 8.5.

The winning team will be travelling to Germany at the end of July to showcase their project at educational institutions and corporate organizations like Siemens.
